5 reasons you’re not achieving your fat loss goal

As we passed the HALF WAY POINT OF THE YEAR are still on course with your new year goals?

Have you fulfilled your new years resolutions or have cracks appeared that have an all too familiar feel to them?

Here a 5 common reasons as to why people consistently fail to achieve their fat loss goal:

1. Lack of patience

I could write a whole post on this subject but it is without doubt the number 1 reason people don’t achieve their goal!

Time and time again people think they can cut corners and somehow fast forward to their goal in no time at all.

Appreciating the fact that it will take commitment to healthy eating and exercise over a sustained period of time is key.

Unfortunately too many people get impatient and quite frankly take the easy way out and quit!

They will find an excuse to quit and even convince themselves it’s not that important to them.

This is usually followed by the promise to themselves that they will start again next week/month/new year etc etc.

The fact is, if you have consistently tried and failed at trying to lose weight over the last few, this means IT IS important to you despite you trying to convince yourself otherwise.

We encourage all of our clients to visualise where they can be in 3, 6 and 12 moths time if they apply patience and remind themselves every day how amazing they will feel when they get there.

2. Quick fix mind set

Yes this old chestnut which comes about through a lack of patience.

We would all like to achieve our goal in the quickest time possible but like any goal it takes time and patience.

The majority of people are aware of this but will still look for a “quick fix alternative” which I can tell you now will lead to short term success BUT inevitability leave you in exactly the same positions 3/6/12 months down the line.

Check out Kelly’s “quick fix blog” http://kmfitnessuk.com/quick-fixes/ for her honest and amusing take on this subject.

3. Quitting after a social event occurs

Have you ever made great progress with your weight loss journey for a certain period of time and then a specific event comes along like Xmas, birthday or a holiday and then boom! You gain a few pounds?

Well gaining the weight here isn’t the big issue, this is common and if I’m very honest it’s to be expected.

The issue here is you spend the next few weeks and quite possibly months dwelling on the fact you have gained weight.

What you should be doing is sucking it up and getting straight back to your weight loss journey. At worse you will have gained weight that puts you back 2-3 weeks which in the grand scheme of things is no time at all!

Over a 12 month period absolutely everyone will gain weight at some point due to certain occasions. You still need to have a life and enjoy yourself otherwise what is the point.

The key is to treat these little occasions as not only a part of life but a “sideways” step on your journey and not a “backwards” step.

This is something we constantly remind all our clients of. It is so easy to fall back into old habits if you don’t have someone there on your shoulder reminding and supporting you every week.

4. Consuming too many calories

Seems a pretty obvious one but even when people are eating healthy they will over eat by having portion sizes too big for them, regularly consuming snacks and regularly breaking away from their diet. This ultimately comes down to discipline and not being greedy.

I have worked I gyms as a trainer for over 14 years and I have seen so many over weight people during this time work their butts off in the gym every week but never seem to lose weight.

The glaringly obvious reason for this will be they are consuming too many calories, which I must point out includes excessive alcohol consumption.

A typical pint contains around 250-300 calories and a typical sensible portion size for a meal is around 400-500 calories. So you are consuming the equivalent of an extra meal every 2 beers.

I am certainly my not preaching to you not to drink but if you do place weight loss as high value in your life then excessive alcohol consumption each week will result in zero progress.

5. You don’t have a coach/PT

I saved this one for last simply because if you can relate to any or all of the first 4 then I can tell you now you will benefit hugely from hiring a good coach or PT.

This is because you will have someone their to not only support and encourage you throughout, but they will be your point of call when you feel you are struggling.

Having someone you are accountable to will make a huge difference for helping you achieve your weight loss goal.

All of the client transformations we have achieved have encountered at least one of these scenarios at some point, but we use our experience and knowledge to ensure they stay on track. They probably wouldn’t have done that if they didn’t have us.

Both myself and Kelly hire our own coaches because we appreciate how important their expert support and guidance is for us to achieve our goals, keeping us on track and to improve our own knowledge as coaches.

Just like we do with our clients, we check in with our coach every week and report back how our week has been. This was a telling factor in us achieving our transformation results before Xmas and why we have invested in hiring a coach this year.

I say invest because that’s exactly how we see it. Investing into something we both place a huge value on that will ultimately make us better coaches and keep us in good shape which ultimately leaves us feeling at our best both physically and mentally.

If you have been able to relate to the first 4 reasons in this post, and you place weight loss as a high value in your life then I strongly recommend you invest in your own coach who has a proven track record of achieving consistent results with their clients.

I will finish by pointing out that although I would love to say we have a 100% success rate with everyone who signs up to us, that isn’t the case.

Ultimately it comes down to your hard work! We can only guide, point and push you in the right direction…the rest is on you.

Just think where you can be in 3,6 and 12 months time if you get started now!
