In the run up to my holiday I wanted to strip back on some body fat to feel leaner in my bathing suit.
I also didn’t want to cut out the foods that I enjoy.
I worked with my long-standing coach who created a calorie deficit that was adjusted accordingly throughout my programming.
This was my accountability.
I then had a protein target to hit each day.
I had a calorie allocation to stay inside of.
And I had programmed exercise throughout.
But NOTHING was off limits nutrition wise.
Don’t get me wrong, I do much prefer meats, baked potatoes and veggies to KFC and crisps.
I LOVE to eat healthily.
I love to look after my body.
But I’m a human, every now and then I like a little bit of something something that I can indulge in.
So how did I do it?!
I did exactly the same as I advise my clients to do.
𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐅𝐔𝐋. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓.
Throughout the week I would prioritise a nutritious intake eating foods that would nourish me and fuel me day to day.
I did the same on the weekends.
If I fancied a Maryland cookie, I would track it.
If I had an occasion…I would make a mindful choice.
I hit the spot with the foods that I enjoyed and then I was back to the nutritious foods that would nourish me more so.
I was AWARE.
And I dropped half a stone.
Listen, you can lose fat on McDonald’s, it’s been done in the past.
But will it nourish you the same way as a plate of chicken, potatoes and veggies will?
Will your body composition look better for it?
No of course not.
That’s not to say that a McDonald’s will hurt though once in a while.
It’s the untracked, over consuming, over indulgence on a day to day basis that will prevent or stall fat loss.
Tracked, accounted for, or even just intuitively eating with awareness around portions and why you are consuming what you are doing is the trick to simultaneously enjoying yourself and making progress.
Fat loss doesn’t have to be hard work.
It can in fact be very enjoyable.
