This headline might shock and surprise you so let me explainโฆ..
Quite often when people start a weight loss journey they have a target weight in mind. For most people this goal will take months to achieve, and within these months there will inevitably be a host of social events that crop up.
Holidays, weekends away, birthday celebrations and Xmas are the most common.
During these events it is important to appreciate that YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT! Especially if you celebrate them the right way. This is perfectly normal and called having a life.
We encourage all of our clients who have a long term weight loss goal to appreciate that finding a balance is important. Gaining a little weight during these events is perfectly normal, and in all honesty pretty important!
Having the mindset of trying to be perfect from start to finish is unrealistic! You do still need to have a life and enjoy yourself.
The very common problem is how people struggle psychologically to accept the weight gain. This then results in beating themselves up, leaving it weeks and sometimes months before they get back on their journey. Thus resulting in gaining more weight and ending up EXACTLY where they were in the first place.
Sound familiar?
If I had ยฃ1 for every time I have had to speak to a client about staying focused after a holiday or social event, I would be a rich man! This is why having a coach to support you on your journey is pretty important. Taking the easy way out and quitting is easy to do when you don’t have someone to keep you on track.
The important thing to find is a balance so IN THE LONG RUN you continue to achieve your goal. Viewing a little weight gain as a sideways movement instead of a backward step is VITAL!
And to put the above into perspective..
A large percentage of weight that is gained from over indulging over the weekend will be water from extra carbs, salt and alcohol.
Applying patience and consistency the few days after enjoyment are vitalโฆthat weight will then level out and come back down and you are back on the road to progressing forwards…………
It is only a problem IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO GET BACK TO IT!
You do however need to be honest with yourself and your coach, if you have one. The balance DOES NEED to be a sensible balance that supports your long term weight loss goal. Repeatedly over indulging most weekends will just result in you maintaining your current weight at best.
Ultimately it comes down to YOU and how much YOU VALUE your weight loss goal.
Balance is key ๐๐ผ
